I am a novice mig welder, I have a 150 amp machine, I am welding up to 10mm strip, I have been told this is more than the machines capabilities but I am grinding a good chamfer on the joints to gain enough penetration.
the thing is I am trying to achieve a neat flat weld and don’t know which gas would be best to use.I am currently using argon/co2 but have been told straight co2 would be better giving a flatter weld and more penetration is this correct?
    Thanks…

Mark as your limitation is your low weld current output its not likely you will see spray transfer with an 035 wire. If your weld current gets past 175 amps try argon oxygen it will resemble spray. With 035 wire use CO2 for your short circuit welds.
If you use an 030 wire you will get spray. use on parts over 0.85, for spray use an argon oxy mix it will allow the use of low spray volts and requires lower spray current than argon > 10% CO2 mixes. WITH 030 YOU CAN EXPECT WIRE FEED ISSUES.
